Gust Co.'s rich RPG series returns to North American PS2s with Atelier Iris 2: The Azoth of Destiny. As fans may remember, the floating isle of Eden is a land of great magic and heavenly peace. Eden itself is threatened in Atelier Iris 2, and players must guide two orphans, Felt and Viese, to save it from imminent destruction. Although the storyline of this sequel is new, the basic gameplay structures return, with some enhancement. Item Synthesis is once again important to survival, and players can use Viese's alchemy skills to create Mana items, which can then be used to blacksmith powerful weapons. The "Action Cost" battle and movement systems also return, with a streamlined interface. While the goal of saving Eden seems straightforward, the path that leads to this victory is full of twists and surprises, designed to challenge players' creativity as well as their strategic abilities.
